Nigerian Army orders soldiers off social media, warns of disciplinary action

During a training seminar for Military Police personnel, Nigerian Army Provost Marshal Maj. Gen. Mathias Erebulu warned that soldiers have "no business being on social media" and that any breach of the First Social Media Act will result in punishment. He instructed commanders to reinforce the regulations and ensure troops understand the consequences of online misconduct.

Erebulu also reminded officers of constitutional limits on detaining civilians, directing that any civilian arrested by soldiers must be handed over to the appropriate law‑enforcement agency within 24 hours after preliminary investigation, in line with due‑process requirements.
