Nigerian Forces Repel ISWAP Attacks Near Maiduguri
Nigerian troops of the Joint Task Force North‑East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, thwarted coordinated infiltration attempts by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) targeting communities around Maiduguri and the Buratai axis in Borno State. Between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., attackers aimed at Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, Ajilari Cross, Miringa and Dutsen Kura. Early‑warning systems enabled forces to detect the militants and engage them with accurate firepower from multiple directions, forcing the insurgents to retreat. An MRAP vehicle triggered an IED during the pursuit at Miringa, but no soldiers were injured.
In a separate clash on 13 March 2021 along the Lake Chad fringe, troops from Sector 3 Operation Lafiya Dole engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP gun trucks, killing several terrorists. The encounter resulted in the deaths of one officer and three soldiers, with additional personnel wounded.
The military emphasized ongoing clearance operations, intelligence gathering, and community vigilance to prevent further threats.
