Nigerian Army rescues kidnapping victims in Edo and Enugu states
The Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade rescued 14 travellers abducted on the Lagos‑Benin Expressway in Edo State. Troops received credible intelligence at about 9:30 p.m. on 30 July 2026, pursued the kidnappers and forced them to abandon 11 victims in a forest. A follow‑up clearance operation on 31 July rescued the remaining three. All 14 victims were medically assessed, found to be in stable condition and were reunited with their families.
In Enugu State, a joint force from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service and the 197 Special Forces Battalion rescued Lt. Col. Ofor Amobi and civilian Ikechukwu Onwuanra after a ten‑day search across the Inyi, Awlaw and Akpugo‑Eze forests. The victims were found at the edge of a forest, the civilian with a gunshot wound, and both were taken to a military hospital for treatment. Both operations remain ongoing with a manhunt for the kidnappers.
