Nigerian Army rescues two kidnapping victims in Taraba State

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, conducted a fighting patrol in the early hours of 26 July 2026 in Lau Local Government Area, Taraba State. Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations Lieutenant Umar Muhammad said intelligence indicated armed criminals had attacked the Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani communities, abducted two men and seized food supplies.

The brigade commander, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro, praised the soldiers for quickly locating and rescuing the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu, who had been held for about a week. He stated, “The successful rescue is a clear demonstration of the troops’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state.”

Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu had directed an intensified campaign against criminal groups, and the army affirmed it will continue operations to protect law‑abiding citizens and maintain security in the region. The rescued men have been reunited with their families.
