Nigerian Army stresses discipline at FOB Imeko and rescues abducted pupils in Oyo forest

Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, visited the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Imeko in Ogun State. During the tour he praised troops for vigilance, discipline and professionalism, warned against harassment and extortion, and met the local traditional ruler, Oba Benjamin Alabi Oyeditan‑Olanite, to seek continued community support.

In a separate operation, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, GOC of the 2 Division, reported that the Nigerian Air Force and drone teams could not penetrate the dense canopy of Old Oyo National Park while tracking terrorists holding 44 pupils and teachers. The failure of aerial surveillance forced a ground assault that resulted in the deaths of an officer and a soldier. A multi‑agency force—including units from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, DSS, and intelligence agencies—eventually rescued the captives after 56 days of captivity, ending the kidnapping crisis in Oyo State.
