Nigerian Army warns of fake social media accounts impersonating officers
The Nigerian Army issued a warning that fraudsters have created fake Facebook accounts impersonating senior officers, specifically the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Major General Raymond Utsaha, and using the photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Bamidele Alabi. The accounts are designed to deceive the public, solicit money, request contracts and convey other unofficial communications.
The Army said senior officers never conduct official business, award contracts, request financial assistance, or handle sensitive matters via personal social‑media profiles. It urged the public to disregard any friend requests, messages or financial demands from such accounts and to report suspicious profiles to security authorities. The statement also noted that the Army will continue to monitor cyberspace and act against individuals involved in online impersonation and fraud.
