Nigerian Communications Commission warns operators over service quality
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned telecommunications operators that failure to meet prescribed service quality standards will result in regulatory sanctions. During the 95th Telecom Consumer Parliament in Lagos, NCC Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida emphasized that the regulator will enforce service standards, ensure transparent billing, and provide effective channels for consumer complaints to protect the digital economy.
Maida noted that reliable connectivity is essential for business, education, and daily activities, stating that network failures can lead to lost sales or missed academic deadlines. The Commission reported that approximately 75 million subscribers received airtime compensation under its Consumer Compensation Framework in 2026, while operators implemented over 6,500 network improvement interventions during the same period.
In a separate effort to improve connectivity, the NCC has also engaged in stakeholder consultations with Airtel Nigeria and IHS Towers. Led by Executive Commissioner Rimini Makama and ALTON President Gbenga Adebayo, these visits aimed to address operational challenges, encourage infrastructure investment, and strengthen cooperation across the telecommunications value chain to extend reliable network coverage nationwide.
