Nigerian domestic refineries receive 127 million barrels of crude
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced that domestic refineries received over 127 million barrels of Nigerian crude oil and condensate between January and September 2026. This increase follows interventions by the regulator to resolve commercial disputes between producers and refiners that had disrupted supplies during the first quarter of the year.
According to NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, deliveries improved significantly in the subsequent quarters, with 53.7 million barrels supplied in the second quarter and 45.1 million barrels in the third quarter. The commission is currently consulting stakeholders on a domestic crude swap framework intended to reduce transportation costs for local refineries.
These efforts support the Domestic Crude Supply Obligation established under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, which mandates the allocation of crude to domestic refineries before export to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products. Additionally, the federal government is working to rehabilitate the national refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna to ensure they remain viable assets.
