Nigerian lawmakers defect from APC to PDP
Several lawmakers in Nigeria have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Kano State, Sule Lawan Shuwaki, the representative for the Tudun Wada constituency in the State House of Assembly, formally resigned from the APC. Shuwaki stated his decision followed deep reflection and consultations with family and political associates. The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, noted that the resignation had been received months prior but was only recently read during plenary.
In Benue State, Thomas Dugeri, the Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, has also moved from the APC to the PDP. Dugeri, who represents the Kwande West State Constituency, was formally welcomed into the party by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom in Abuja. Dugeri expressed his readiness to work with the PDP leadership to strengthen the party for the upcoming 2027 elections.
