Nigerian Navy Seizes Over 63,000 Litres of Illegal Diesel in Rivers State
The Nigerian Navy, operating under Operation Delta Sentinel, carried out an intelligence‑driven raid in the Orashi Forest corridor of Abua‑Odual Local Government Area, Rivers State. Personnel from the naval vessel NNS Soroh intercepted a silver Toyota Camry and uncovered 17 sacks of suspected illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO). Further ground searches revealed 56 additional sacks hidden under dense vegetation. In total, 73 sacks containing roughly 63,290 litres of the illegal fuel were recovered and the vehicle was secured.
Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, said the seizure disrupts a critical link in the illicit petroleum supply chain and underscores the growing use of forest corridors by criminal networks. The recovered products were handled according to regulations, and the Navy pledged continued operations to protect Nigeria’s vital oil resources.
