Nigerian Navy disrupts illegal refining and drug networks in Niger Delta
The Nigerian Navy has conducted several operations in the Niger Delta to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining, and drug trafficking.
In Rivers State, naval personnel from NNS SOROH discovered an illegal refining site in the Orashi Forest within the Ogbogolo community. The site contained 23 dugout pits, holding approximately 105,000 litres of suspected illegally refined diesel and 9,500 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.
In Delta State, separate operations under Operation DELTA SENTINEL led to the recovery of 75,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil from three reservoirs in the Oteghele area. Additionally, a joint raid by the Navy and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in various Delta communities resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects and the seizure of substances including cocaine, methamphetamine, tramadol, and cannabis.
Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho stated that these intelligence-led operations aim to dismantle illegal infrastructure, protect national petroleum revenue, and disrupt criminal networks fueling illicit drug distribution.
