Nigerian opposition coalition expands membership for 2027 elections
The G100-backed opposition coalition in Nigeria has resolved to admit additional political parties as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. The decision was reached during the inaugural meeting of the Central Leadership Committee held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
To promote equality among member parties, the coalition has adopted a rotating chairmanship system. The current members include the African Democratic Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Nigeria Democratic Congress, the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Social Democratic Party, and the Democratic Leadership Alliance.
The committee is currently implementing resolutions from its August 31 summit, which includes activating a Publicity and Communication Committee, a Legal Committee, and five specialized working groups. Participating parties were instructed to submit nominees to the coalition secretariat by September 18, with committees expected to begin operations between September 21 and 27.
