Nigerian opposition groups call for unity ahead of 2027 elections
A coalition of 100 Nigerians, known as G-100, has called on opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections to defeat President Bola Tinubu. The group is urging prominent figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, to set aside individual ambitions to form a united front.
Efforts toward unity have faced previous setbacks. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso had formerly joined an alliance led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) but later departed to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal divisions and legal disputes.
Separately, the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN) has urged Nigerians to reject President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. The GMN criticized the recently formed campaign council as a ‘self-serving group’ that has failed to address the nation’s economic and security challenges.
