Nigerian Army Repels Terrorist Assault on Zamfara Base, Rescues Nine, Loses Officer and Policeman
At about 1:40 a.m. on 2 August 2026, terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State. Reinforcements pursued the fleeing militants and rescued nine civilians who had been abducted from nearby villages. The army confirmed that one army officer and one police officer were killed in the heavy firefight, while two soldiers were wounded and air‑evacuated for treatment. Officials also refuted social‑media claims that six security personnel had died, stating the confirmed casualties were the two officers.
Following the engagement, the army secured the area and began exploitation operations to assess the full extent of the attackers’ losses and to reinforce security in the region.
