Nigerian police stop kidnapping plot in Ekiti and bust fraud ring in Gombe
In Ekiti State, the police Violent Crime Response Unit, together with local officers and vigilantes, foiled a kidnapping plan on July 4. Two suspects, Mumini Muhammed (23) and Kehinde Oseni (22), were caught selling two stolen cows valued at about N1.5 million, which they intended to use to finance the kidnapping. The cattle were recovered and returned to their owner, and the suspects have been charged pending further investigation.
In Gombe State, police arrested eight members of a criminal syndicate after a June 7 armed robbery in Wuro Birji. The group stole mobile phones, accessed victims’ bank accounts and withdrew more than N500,000. Among those detained was 19‑year‑old Mustapha Kabiru, known as “Musty Bobo.” The arrests followed intensive intelligence work and technical analysis linking the suspects to multiple robberies and online fraud across several communities. Police continue to pursue remaining gang members.
