Nigerian President Bola Tinubu defends reforms amid Ooni endorsement
President Bola Tinubu told Nigerians he would not betray their trust, emphasizing that the economic reforms his administration has pursued—though painful—are necessary for a stronger, more prosperous future. He urged supporters to expand the PBAT Door‑to‑Door Movement, a nationwide grassroots mobilisation effort aimed at explaining government policies and encouraging democratic participation.
At the same inauguration event in Abuja, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praised Tinubu’s reforms, citing unprecedented growth in the capital market approaching a N140 trillion valuation, foreign reserves rising to about $52 billion, and a more stable foreign‑exchange market. He also highlighted milestones such as a strategic gas agreement with Ajaokuta Steel and a Nigerian aviation‑fuel producer matching U.S. production capacity, describing the reforms as bold decisions reshaping the economy.
