Nigerian Soldiers Assault TheCable Journalist in Lagos

Assistant Business Editor Olalekan Fakoyejo of TheCable was assaulted by Nigerian soldiers during a traffic control operation in the Ogba area of Lagos on Saturday. While traveling by tricycle from Ikeja to Ogba, Fakoyejo observed a soldier forcing another tricycle rider to climb onto his vehicle as punishment for causing congestion. When Fakoyejo commented on the traffic impact, the soldier dragged him out of his vehicle, threatened him, and ordered him to report to nearby troops.

The soldier repeatedly pushed and slapped Fakoyejo, attempted to strike him with a stick found on the ground, and caused his phone to fall and its screen to shatter. Bystanders later urged the journalist to leave and intervened as two other soldiers threatened to whip him. The Nigerian Army has not responded to requests for comment.
