Nigerian state governments initiate inquiries into communal crises
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a seven-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Aguleri–Umuoba Anam communal crisis. The commission, chaired by Justice Nkemdilim Izuakor—a former judge at the United Nations Dispute Tribunal—is tasked with conducting an impartial investigation to restore peace. The commission is expected to submit its report by February 28, 2027.
In Cross River State, Deputy Governor Peter Odey has reaffirmed the government's commitment to resolving the 20-year Ebom-Ebijaghara communal crisis in the Abi Local Government Area. The administration plans to use a reviewed version of recommendations from a previous committee to guide peace efforts and facilitate the return of displaced residents to their ancestral homes. The government is currently implementing certain recommendations, including road construction in the region, to support stability.
