Nigerian state governments provide grants to small businesses
The Kwara and Lagos state governments in Nigeria have launched initiatives to support small businesses and entrepreneurs through financial grants and equipment.
In Kwara State, the government awarded N89.2 million in grants to 12 young entrepreneurs via the Kwara State Social Investment Programme. The beneficiaries, selected following approval from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, received varying amounts to support enterprises ranging from fashion to food services. The state intends to monitor the impact of these funds over the next six to twelve months.
In Lagos State, the government provided grants ranging from N100,000 to N250,000 to 100 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). During a ceremony in Ikeja, beneficiaries also received productive equipment, including generators, freezers, grinding machines, and sewing machines. This intervention is part of a broader effort to improve production capacity and job creation, supported by a N10 billion financing framework for MSMEs through cooperatives.
