Nigerian state government MSME support initiatives

State governments in Nigeria have launched various programs to provide financial and material support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In Kwara State, the government awarded N89.2 million in grants to 12 young entrepreneurs through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme. These funds, approved by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, target diverse sectors including fashion and food services, with the state planning to monitor the impact of the funds over the following six to twelve months.

In Lagos State, the government distributed grants ranging from N100,000 to N250,000 to over 100 MSMEs. During the 2026 MSME Day Celebration, beneficiaries across the five IBILE divisions also received productive equipment such as generators, freezers, and sewing machines. This initiative aims to combat challenges like inflation and high energy costs. The state also highlighted the Lagos State Access to Finance for MSMEs through Cooperatives (LASMECO) scheme, which utilizes a ₦10 billion financing framework and over 16,000 registered cooperative societies to provide affordable financing.
