Nigerian states Abia and Borno launch malaria prevention campaigns
Nigerian states Abia and Borno have launched significant initiatives to combat malaria through the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
In Abia State, the government announced that the distribution of nets across 17 local government areas will begin in early October. The exercise, led by Governor Alex Otti, follows the arrival of the nets in the state. To support this, the Ministry of Health and the National Malaria Elimination Programme will conduct larvae source management activities before the end of September, specifically targeting Isuikwuato and Aba South LGAs due to high mosquito breeding levels.
In Borno State, the government has procured five million insecticide-treated nets for distribution across 26 local government areas. The campaign aims to reduce malaria infections through a door-to-door distribution process. To ensure transparency and accountability, the state will utilize digital technology for household registration. The Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Resources is also working with the Malaria Consortium to train media personnel to monitor the distribution and assist in public awareness efforts.
