Nigerian Students Association Orders South African Firms to Exit Nigeria Within Four Days

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) announced on Monday in Enugu that South African business interests operating in Nigeria must leave the country within four days, warning that the more than 43 million Nigerian students will stage mass protests and picket the firms if the deadline is missed. The ultimatum cites ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa against Nigerians and other African nationals, during which Nigerian‑owned businesses were looted, vandalised and set on fire.

NANS urged the Nigerian federal government and the African Union to take stronger action against South Africa, reminding that Nigeria supported South Africa during the anti‑apartheid struggle. The statement follows a recent government‑organised airlift that evacuated hundreds of stranded Nigerians from South Africa.
