Nigeria military rescues 60+ kidnap victims and arrests 44 suspects

The Nigerian military has reported significant successes in its ongoing security operations across several states. Between September 18 and 24, 2026, troops and the Nigerian Air Force rescued more than 60 kidnapped victims and arrested 44 suspects involved in terrorism, kidnapping, and arms trafficking.

Key operations included a Nigerian Air Force strike in Kebbi State that forced terrorists to abandon captives, and ground rescues in Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara. In Borno State, troops intercepted 44 members of terrorist families, including 13 women and 31 children, who had escaped from camps. Additionally, more than 20 fighters surrendered in the Gwoza, Dikwa, and Ngala areas.

In separate tactical engagements, troops in Kaduna State foiled a terrorist attack in Rijana and arrested a suspect in Awom. In Sokoto, a raid on a hideout in Gudu Local Government Area resulted in the neutralization of one terrorist and the recovery of an AK-47 and a motorcycle.

To bolster these efforts, the Nigerian Army has graduated 87 newly trained soldiers from the 90 Regular Intake. These troops completed an eight-week training program at the 1 Division Training School in Kaduna and are being deployed to various theaters under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to enhance operational readiness and professionalism.
