Nigerian troops kill terrorist commander and thwart attacks in Zamfara and Katsina

Joint Task Force North West troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA announced that coordinated terrorist attacks in Zamfara and Katsina states were foiled on Monday. In Zamfara’s Kaura Namoda area, troops killed a notorious commander identified as Alhaji Tukur, the younger brother of kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, and recovered weapons, ammunition and motorcycles. Air assets intercepted a convoy of about 300 militants travelling on motorcycles, striking them with precision airstrikes before they could reach civilian targets. Similar engagements in Katsina’s Danmusa area forced terrorists to retreat, with additional AK‑47 rifles and a motorcycle recovered.

In a separate operation in Katsina’s Bakori Local Government Area, the 17 Brigade’s Sector 2 forces ambushed a planned road attack on the Kakumi‑Guga road. Eight suspected terrorists were killed, and two AK‑47 rifles and five motorcycles were seized. Troops said they continue aggressive patrols to prevent retaliatory attacks across the north‑west region.
