ISWAP senior finance operative surrenders in Borno, Nigeria
A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) surrendered to Nigerian troops on 25 July 2026 at about 6:45 a.m. on the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo main supply route in Borno State. Preliminary profiling identified the individual as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram. He turned in his weapons and cash together with his two male children.
Troops recovered one AK‑47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash. The surrender follows a wave of defections, with roughly 46 terrorists and family members voluntarily laying down arms in recent days, which the army attributes to sustained land and air offensives by Operation HADIN KAI. The operative is undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to extract actionable intelligence for ongoing counter‑insurgency operations.
The army said the loss of a high‑ranking finance officer represents a significant setback to ISWAP’s command, logistics and financial networks in Nigeria’s north‑east.
