Kebbi security clash kills 10 police officers and 2 civilians
A violent confrontation between security forces and a heavily armed group of suspected bandits in Kebbi State has resulted in the deaths of ten police officers and two civilians. The clash occurred on August 10, 2026, along the Rafin Makuku axis in the Sakaba Local Government Area, as the armed group was moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states. Police reported that at least 17 suspected bandits were killed and four motorcycles used by the attackers were destroyed during the engagement.
In separate security operations, the Nigerian Army and police successfully rescued 33 passengers who had been abducted by terrorists in the Tsafe area of Zamfara State. Additionally, a joint operation involving the Army, Navy, and local vigilantes rescued 16 people kidnapped in Kogi State.
In response to the fatalities in Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris pledged that the state government would support the families of the fallen officers. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu expressed grief over the loss, and authorities announced that a new police squadron would be established in Kebbi to strengthen security operations in the region.
