The African Democratic Congress (ADC) called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down, citing World Bank estimates that about 139 million Nigerians – roughly 60 % of the population – now live below the national poverty line and a World Food Programme report that 17 million are facing acute hunger. ADC’s National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the figures show the administration’s economic reforms have failed to improve living conditions despite claimed macro‑economic gains.

At the same time, the party is grappling with internal leadership battles. Former APC vice‑chairman Salihu Mohammed Lukman accused Governor Nasir El‑Rufai and his allies of marginalising him within the ADC, while tensions also involve Vice‑Presidential hopeful Rotimi Amaechi. The infighting threatens the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
