Nigeria's Agbado-Oke Odo Leaders Call for Community Resilience to Boost Security

Community leaders and security officials gathered in Lagos for a one‑day workshop titled “Strengthening Community Resilience for Security and Safety in Nigeria.” Participants, including Abiodun Ejigbadero, chairman of the Agbado‑Oke‑Odo Local Council Development Area, emphasized that lasting security requires cooperation between residents, community development associations and security agencies.

Ejigbadero and Ernest Kasumu, chairman of the Community Development Committee, identified five pillars – shared vigilance, youth engagement, local intelligence, crisis response and social unity – as essential for grassroots policing. They urged community development associations to act as the first line of defence and to share intelligence with police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Olanrewaju Ilori of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency highlighted the need for local emergency response teams to improve disaster preparedness.
