Nigeria's Army Chief Waidi Shaibu launches projects and seeks stronger state partnership during Army Day

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, inaugurated a series of new facilities at the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division headquarters in Port Harcourt as part of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day celebrations. The projects include a Command and Administrative Centre, a detention facility, accommodation blocks for senior and junior officers, RSM Signal and Brigade accommodations, and a Soldiers' Club, all aimed at improving welfare and operational efficiency for troops and their families.

During a courtesy visit to Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalaye Fubara, Shaibu called for deeper collaboration between the army and the state to address security challenges, noting recent improvements in safety, oil production, and the fight against insurgency, pipeline vandalism, and crude theft. The joint efforts are framed as essential for protecting critical national assets and supporting economic stability ahead of the celebration’s grand finale on July 6.
