Nigeria’s Army Chief Waidi Shaibu urges stronger military cooperation at Army Day

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, hosted chiefs and senior military leaders from Africa and other regions in Port Harcourt during the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026).

Shaibu called for deeper military cooperation and greater interoperability to confront evolving transnational security threats, saying the gathering offers a platform for exchanging operational experiences, building trust and strengthening collective regional and global peace. The event highlighted Nigeria’s intent to expand defence partnerships with foreign armies.
