Nigeria’s BEL Dialogue Calls for Electoral Reforms Ahead of 2027 Election

The 2026 edition of the BEL Dialogue was held in Asaba, Delta State, under the theme “Democracy That Works: Bridging the Gap Between Votes, Results and Institutional Accountability.” Organized by Bel Media Consult Limited, the forum brought together stakeholders from governance, electoral administration, academia, civil society and the media.

Participants urged comprehensive electoral reforms, stronger democratic institutions and greater citizen participation as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections. The Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge (SAN), praised the event and called for decentralising governance, while the forum’s chair, Pharm. Paul O. Enebeli, highlighted the need for a transparent, violence‑free electoral process. Honourees such as Mike Igini were recognised for advancing electoral integrity.

The dialogue emphasized that reforms are essential to improve the credibility of elections and to ensure that democratic governance meets the aspirations of Nigerians.
