Nigeria's Defence HQ teams with journalists to curb fake news
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja pledged a stronger partnership with the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) to fight misinformation. Director of Defence Information Maj‑Gen Samaila Uba met with DECAN President Sunday Odita, emphasizing the need for accurate reporting amid AI‑driven manipulation and social‑media propaganda.
The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) also joined the effort, with Dr. Chido Onumah confirming commitments to regular briefings, specialised training, and improved media facilities such as a press centre and operational bus. DECAN announced plans to launch a dedicated publication, The Defence Correspondent, in October 2026. Both security officials and journalists framed the collaboration as a strategic partnership to boost public confidence and protect national security.
