Nigeria's EFCC commended by FBI for sextortion crackdown
President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following recognition from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The commendation follows the success of Operation Artemis, an international investigation into criminal networks involved in the sexual exploitation and extortion of minors.
In a letter to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, FBI Director Kash Patel praised the commission for its role in the arrest and extradition of two Nigerian suspects, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale. The suspects were extradited to the United States in August 2026 and are currently facing federal charges.
President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria must not serve as a safe haven for criminals and pledged continued administration support for law enforcement agencies to combat financial crimes and strengthen international cooperation.
