Nigeria's FAAN unveils waste recycling program and upgrades Lagos Hajj terminal

On Wednesday, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, FAAN Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje and FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku launched Phase One of the Federal Airports Authority’s Sustainable Waste Management Programme at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The first phase installs indoor colour‑coded recycling bins across terminals to improve waste segregation, cut operational costs and move FAAN toward a higher Airport Carbon Accreditation level.

In the same visit Keyamo inspected the upgraded Hajj terminal at Lagos airport, a project under President Bola Tinubu’s broader aviation‑infrastructure plan. The renovation adds modern prayer rooms, a VIP section, improved boarding areas, new screening machines, upgraded cooling and immigration‑customs facilities, and can process between 8,500 and 10,000 pilgrims during the Hajj season. Similar upgrades are slated for other Nigerian hajj terminals. Keyamo said, “This is just one in a series of steps that the president has mandated us to take,” underscoring the government’s commitment to modernising aviation services.
