Nigeria's Human Rights Commission flags 200 domestic violence cases in Kwara and over 326,000 complaints nationwide
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) reported that Kwara state recorded at least 200 cases of domestic violence between January and early March 2026, prompting calls for greater sensitisation and support for victims.
Across Nigeria, NHRC Executive Secretary Dr. Tony Ojukwu said the commission received 326,113 complaints in June 2026, with violations of the right to life the most frequent. The dashboard highlighted ongoing armed violence, sexual abuse of minors, and lingering needs of survivors of the Yelewata massacre in Benue State. Ojukwu urged stronger citizen protection, accountability, and the implementation of a new state police system to curb abuses, while stressing the need for child‑protection measures and psychosocial support for affected families.
