Nigeria's IGP vows crackdown on pre‑election violence in Osun State

Inspector‑General of Police Tunji Disu met Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo and warned that the wave of killings, clashes and political unrest ahead of the August 15 governorship election must not be treated as a war. He pledged that police will pursue and prosecute anyone involved, directing the state commissioner of police to arrest suspects and intensify operations against identified violent groups.

Disu said allegations exist that some suspects are hiding in the government house and that political actors from various parties may be harbouring criminals. He appealed to parents to keep their children from being used as political thugs and announced the deployment of additional security personnel to ensure a peaceful vote. The governor echoed the call for arrests, stating that even relatives of officials would be prosecuted if implicated.
