Nigeria's INEC delays access codes ahead of 2027 elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) alleges that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied it the access code needed to upload candidate names to the nomination portal, threatening the party’s presidential and vice‑presidential candidates. Separately, INEC announced that the release of access codes for all parties has been moved to a later date, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) warned the public to ignore a circulating fake list of primary winners.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) confirmed that INEC has begun issuing access codes for the off‑cycle Osun governorship election, though it remains unclear whether the codes for the 2027 national polls have been distributed. Youth leaders in the Southeast urged voters to base their choices on candidates’ performance records, endorsing former Abia State Assembly Speaker Enyinnaya Chinedum Orji for the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency.
