Nigeria's INEC introduces assistive tools for 2027 elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is implementing new measures to enhance electoral accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
In Rivers State, the commission showcased assistive materials including Braille ballot guides, magnifying glasses for voters with low vision, and EC30 pictorial posters. These tools were presented during a sensitization meeting aimed at strengthening disability inclusion and removing barriers to democratic participation.
In Anambra State, Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Agwu emphasized the commission's commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections. The initiative in Anambra includes the introduction of dedicated queues and targeted voter education to ensure that eligible citizens with disabilities can participate without discrimination.
