Nigeria's JAMB names 39‑year‑old Segun Aina as youngest registrar
President Bola Tinubu appointed Professor Segun Aina as the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on 21 May 2026. Aina, a 39‑year‑old computer‑engineering professor, took office on 31 July 2026, succeeding Prof. Ishaq Oloyede after a ten‑year tenure. Aina is the youngest person ever to lead JAMB.
In his inaugural address Aina pledged to protect the board’s integrity, describing a “war on exam malpractice” and warning fraud syndicates that “their business is in the wrong institution”. He said JAMB will intensify use of technology, intelligence gathering and collaboration with security agencies to detect, deter and prosecute offenders.
Outgoing registrar Oloyede highlighted the reforms achieved during his decade in office, including the expansion of computer‑based testing, the Central Admissions Processing System, biometric verification, CCTV monitoring and digital payment platforms. He also noted that JAMB committed more than ₦8 billion to staff retirement savings and introduced a 13th‑month salary, among other welfare measures.
