Zamfara LG Chairman Nura Umar Abdullahi Kidnapped as Bandits Kill Four Security Operatives

In the early hours of 25 July 2026, heavily‑armed bandits stormed the residence of the Bungudu Local Government Area chairman in Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi. Two police officers, two vigilantes and a civilian were killed while the attackers abducted the chairman and members of his family.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded, rescuing five relatives – two children, the chairman’s wife, mother and another relative – and launching a joint search‑and‑rescue operation with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and local vigilantes. The chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, was injured. No group has claimed responsibility, and residents have urged federal and state authorities to intensify security in Bungudu and surrounding communities.

The military confirmed that all available resources are being deployed to locate the abducted chairman and that the operation continues.
