Nigeria's NASENI Highlights Local Clean-Energy Innovation and Staff Awards

Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu praised the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) at a staff motivation and reward ceremony in Abuja, calling the event a celebration of the workforce driving Nigeria's industrial and technological transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. He listed more than 44 commercially viable Made‑in‑Nigeria products developed in 2025, including laptops, smartphones, solar irrigation pumps and electric tricycles, and announced the construction of a 40‑hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, slated to become Africa’s largest clean‑energy manufacturing hub. The agency also awarded over ₦229 million in grants to female engineers and reported the creation of more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Halilu urged Nigeria to shift from importing renewable‑energy technologies to manufacturing them locally, noting that the country spent over ₦400 billion on solar imports in 2025 and more than ₦200 billion in the first half of 2026. He highlighted the continent’s need for $15 billion annually to close the clean‑energy access gap by 2035 and stressed the importance of an integrated ecosystem of innovation, research, financing and skilled manpower to sustain growth.
