Nigeria youth agribusiness & clean‑energy initiatives expand

Overview

Since early June 2026 the Nigerian federal government, IITA, FCMB and other partners have launched a suite of youth‑focused agribusiness and empowerment programmes, including the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund, the NNPC‑Renaissance Enterprise Development Programme, BATN Foundation’s Farmers for the Future cohort, climate‑smart training by Ecosphere Blue‑Green Solutions, and NASENI’s large‑scale skills programmes in solar, mechanics and digital trades.

On 6 July 2026 the federal government, together with Ogun State, opened a four‑day training for Agricultural Extension Agents in Abeokuta, aiming to boost food production, create jobs and build capacity across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. In parallel, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project and Borno State began modern livestock‑farming training for 100 farmers in Maiduguri.

On 19 July 2026 NASENI held a staff motivation and reward ceremony in Abuja where Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu announced the construction of a 40‑hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State – projected to become Africa’s largest clean‑energy manufacturing hub – and highlighted more than 44 commercially viable Made‑in‑Nigeria products launched in 2025. The agency reported over ₦229 million in grants to female engineers and the creation of more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The next day, 20 July 2026, the National Agricultural Development Fund launched a four‑day pilot of the Grassroots Digital Extension Corps in Lafia, Nasarawa State, training 1,884 agricultural extension agents and food‑security specialists from the North‑Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory. Participants received tablets loaded with climate‑smart curricula and were instructed in digital advisory services, data collection and modern communication techniques, strengthening the link between research institutions, government programmes and farming communities to improve productivity and food‑security planning nationwide.
