Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps Faces Appointment Probe and Election Rumor Denial

A coalition of civil‑society groups, the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, has called on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to halt the appointment of Olaoluwa Joshua Onifade as Director of Procurement pending the outcome of an age‑falsification investigation. The group says a disciplinary panel’s report on the case has not been acted on and urges transparent verification of Onifade’s records, as well as involvement of oversight bodies such as the Office of the Head of Service and the Bureau of Public Procurement.

The NYSC later issued a press statement denying an online claim that corps members were being paid ₦50,000 to sway the Osun State governorship election. The scheme described the allegation as false and misleading, reaffirmed its non‑partisan stance, and said it is working with security agencies to protect members and urged media outlets to verify information before publishing.
