Nigeria's NBAIS allocates ₦18bn for staff and development projects in 2026 budget

The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) has earmarked ₦18.05 billion—about 68 % of its ₦26.47 billion 2026 allocation—for personnel costs. Salaries account for roughly ₦15.41 billion, while allowances and statutory social contributions total ₦2.64 billion, including ₦770 million for the National Health Insurance Scheme, ₦1.54 billion for employer pension contributions and ₦179 million for the Employees’ Compensation Scheme.

The remaining budget covers ₦318 million for overheads and ₦8.1 billion for capital projects. Over ₦2.5 billion is set aside for infrastructure and social programmes in Kano, Katsina, Kogi and Zamfara states, such as a ₦210 million road in Kano’s Dantata‑Saint Louis corridor, a ₦70 million 1.5‑km road in Kogi, ₦84 million for factories in Kogi East, and a ₦70 million outpost for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano. Additional allocations include ₦28 million for rice distribution in Zamfara, ₦70 million for empowerment cash grants in Kano, and more than ₦1.5 billion for solar‑powered streetlights across numerous local government areas. Youth and entrepreneurship training programmes receive ₦75.6 million and ₦49 million respectively. Attempts to obtain an official comment were unsuccessful, though NBAIS Head of Information Abdul Salam Ramalan said a response would follow consultations with agency leadership.
