Nigeria's NDLEA detains Chinese national with 31 kg cannabis at Lagos airport

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 63‑year‑old Ting Hung Kiong, a Chinese woman naturalised in Malaysia, on 17 May 2026 after she arrived at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport on an Emirates flight from Thailand via Dubai. Officers seized two large boxes containing about 31 kg of the synthetic cannabis strain “Canadian Loud”.

In a related operation at the same airport, NDLEA intercepted a consignment of 1,825,710 Tapentadol tablets (250 mg) shipped from India, valued at roughly ₦2.19 billion, which had been handed over by the Customs Service. The agency also reported arrests and drug recoveries at other Nigerian airports and borders, including cocaine in Enugu, tramadol and MDMA shipments bound for Europe and the United States, and large quantities of cannabis (skunk) seized in Edo, Kano, Badagry and Ekiti states.
