Nigeria's NERC invites investors to expand electricity supply
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has called on investors to utilize existing regulatory frameworks to finance large-scale projects aimed at improving the nation's electricity supply. During a panel at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, NERC officials emphasized that the current regulatory environment provides opportunities for sustainable and bankable investments.
Abba Terab, NERC’s Director of Economic Regulation, stated that the commission has established instruments to attract private capital and support viable transactions. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Vision 30:30:30 target and the liberalization of the sector via the Electricity Act.
To enhance reliability for homes and businesses, the government is promoting decentralized electricity models, such as embedded generation. This approach seeks to generate power closer to consumers and communities, offering investment opportunities beyond the traditional national grid model.
