Nigeria's NUPRC awards 19 petroleum prospecting licences to 12 firms
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) executed concession contracts and began issuing 19 Petroleum Prospecting Licences (PPLs) to 12 awardees during the Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week 2026 in Abuja. The signing ceremony was led by NUPRC Chairman Sen. Magnus Abe, Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan and Legal Adviser Olayemi Adeboyejo.
Recipient companies include Boron Energy Limited (PPL 2009), Energy Marketing and Supply Limited (PPL 269), Sahara Deepwater Resources Limited (PPLs 270 & 271) and Tulkan Energy E&P Company Limited (PPL 2008), covering deep offshore, shallow water and continental‑shelf acreage. The licences, granted under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, establish the legal, fiscal and commercial framework for the licence holders and are intended to attract fresh investment, accelerate exploration, increase Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves and boost production capacity, creating long‑term value for the economy. Some firms signed at the event; others will complete the process at later dates.
