Nigeria's Pastor Adeboye Defended After Misinterpreted Security Comments
RCCG Continental Overseer Pastor Johnson Odesola defended General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye after his remarks on Nigeria’s insecurity were portrayed as supporting President Bola Tinubu. Odesola said Adeboye’s comments, delivered at the US‑Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, were taken out of context and that the pastor never denied the worsening security situation.
Adeboye highlighted that the President, as Commander‑in‑Chief, provides direction while the military carries out operations, and he warned against the financing of terrorist groups. Odesola urged Nigerians to give Adeboye a fair hearing, criticizing reliance on short social‑media clips, and called for collective responsibility from the government, security agencies, the judiciary, traditional rulers, religious leaders and citizens.
The clarification seeks to separate the pastor’s call for decisive leadership and accountability from any perceived defence of the current administration’s handling of the crisis.
