Nigeria's PDP vows unity amid internal crisis and Supreme Court ruling

Senior PDP figures reiterated their commitment to keep the party intact despite a mounting internal crisis. Former Deputy National Chairman Olabode “Bode” George warned against defections, saying he would never leave the party and urged the judiciary to uphold its mandate in a pending case. Interim National Working Committee chair Tanimu Turaki told stakeholders in Abuja that “nobody can kill the PDP,” promising full participation in the 2027 elections and citing past crises the party had survived. Chief Dan Ulasi described the party as being in the “intensive care unit,” stressing that resolution of leadership disputes is essential for electoral competitiveness. A Supreme Court judgment declares there is now “one PDP,” prompting a faction loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike to seize the Oyo State secretariat in Ibadan, while another faction claims the Molete base as the party’s true headquarters. Turaki’s group also met former President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the upcoming presidential race. The leaders collectively emphasized unity, resilience and preparation for the 2027 general elections.
