Nigeria's Real Estate Developers Association urges government regulation to curb fraud and collapses

Oba Akintoye Adeoye, president of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) and traditional ruler of Okeigbo community in Ondo State, told a National Housing Data Programme Workshop in Abuja that the lack of a regulatory framework for real‑estate developers is driving fraud, multiple land sales and building collapses across the country. He called on the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to create a shared regulatory model in which the government licenses developers while REDAN oversees professionalism, ethical conduct and training. Adeoye also proposed a National Developers’ Registry and urged state governments to retain responsibility for land administration and planning. He said such measures would boost accountability, protect consumers, restore confidence in the sector and improve housing delivery nationwide.
